Social Security Administration Suspends Mailing Annual Benefit Statements
In testimony to the Senate Appropriations committee in March, the Social Security Administration announced that it will not send out annual benefit statements for the rest of this fiscal year.
The SSA’s website also indicates that its online Social Security benefit statement request system has been turned off “in light of the current budget situation.”
Next year, the SSA will send annual statements to those over 60 and plans to resume making statements available by request to those under 60. The agency also plans to offer an online version of the retirement benefit statement. In the meantime, those willing to do a bit of work can still use the online Social Security Estimator to calculate future benefits.
